Hongdae Re2O Skin Booster: 3 Differences From Other Boosters

Key Points: Re2O is a skin booster built on ECM (extracellular matrix) components, and it differs from other boosters in its ingredient source, how it works, and its product classification. Whether it suits you depends on your skin's condition, so it helps to understand what each booster is designed to address before choosing.

What Exactly Is ECM, and Why Does It Matter for Skin?

ECM stands for extracellular matrix. In plain terms, it is the structural material that fills the space between the cells in your skin. Collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid are all part of it.

Collagen helps maintain the skin's shape and firmness, while elastin is linked to how well the skin springs back after being stretched. These are the parts of the skin that give it that resilient, full feeling.

With age and accumulated sun exposure, these components gradually decrease and weaken. When that happens, the density of the dermis can drop, and the skin may look thinner, with fine lines and uneven texture becoming easier to notice.

Many patients describe this as "my skin just isn't what it used to be." In my experience, a good part of that change comes back to this very process.

How Is Re2O Different From Other Skin Boosters?

In short, Re2O differs from other skin boosters in three main ways: where the ingredient comes from, how it works, and how it is classified.

1) Different starting ingredient. Re2O's core ingredient is hADM, meaning the collagen, elastin, and other ECM components left after cells are removed from human-derived dermis. By comparison, Rejuran is based on PN (polynucleotide), and Juvelook is based on PDLLA and hyaluronic acid.

2) Different way of working. Conventional skin boosters have mainly worked by encouraging the skin to produce its own collagen. Re2O takes the approach of directly supplementing ECM components in the dermis.

3) Different product classification. In Korea, Re2O has received market approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety as a tissue graft material.

So, Is Re2O the Best Skin Booster?

Honestly, I don't answer "yes" to that question. A different ingredient does not automatically mean it is better for everyone.

When choosing a skin booster, I look first at whether a product has proven safety and a long track record, rather than whether it is the newest one on the market.

I also consider the main concern. Is it dryness from within, loss of density and firmness, or texture and pores? The right product can be quite different depending on the answer.

That is why I don't start a consultation with a product name. Dr. Paul Jung follows the same standard: we assess your skin first, then decide on the product, dose, and treatment area.

💡 A newer or different ingredient is not automatically a better fit. The right choice starts from your skin, not from a product name.

Which Skin Concerns May Suit Re2O?

Re2O may be worth discussing in a consultation if any of the following sound like you. Whether it is appropriate is decided after an in-person skin assessment.

One important point I always make clear: sagging of the facial contour is often difficult to address with skin boosters alone. Treating areas that have dropped and filling in skin density are two different problems.

If those two are not distinguished and all expectations rest on a skin booster, you may feel "this isn't what I expected" after treatment. That is why I explain beforehand what may improve and what may remain.

If you have already had other treatments, we review that history together and avoid recommending anything that unnecessarily overlaps. Dr. Paul Jung holds the same principle.

  • Skin that looks thin and lacks firmness

  • Rough texture and an increase in fine lines

  • Density concerns that remain even after other skin boosters

  • A preference for improving overall skin condition rather than a dramatic change

What Should I Watch Out for After Re2O Treatment?

After treatment, swelling, redness, or small bruises may appear at the injection sites. The degree and duration vary from person to person, depending on skin condition and the treated area.

I consider post-treatment guidance just as important as the treatment itself. Even with the same procedure, how you care for your skin afterward can change the recovery process.

  • On the day of treatment, stick to gentle cleansing and wait until the time you were advised before applying makeup.

  • Avoid rubbing or massaging the injected areas firmly.

  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, strenuous exercise, and alcohol for a few days.

  • Apply sunscreen carefully and consistently.

  • Contact the clinic right away if swelling or redness lasts unusually long, or if you notice heat or increasing pain.

💡 If swelling or redness seems unusual or does not settle, contact the clinic promptly rather than waiting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Re2O painful?

Pain tolerance varies from person to person and by treatment area. Before the procedure, we ask how sensitive you are to pain and agree on a suitable pain management approach together.

Can I combine Re2O with Rejuran or Juvelook?

In some cases, treatments are planned together depending on your skin concerns. Whether to do them on the same day or space them out depends on factors such as overlapping treatment areas and any current swelling or inflammation. What matters most is whether the combination fits your skin now, not how many products are used at once.

How many Re2O sessions will I need?

The number of sessions and the interval depend on your skin thickness, density, and the degree of your concern. Rather than recommending a fixed number up front, we check your skin as we go and plan the next step together.

Can Re2O fix sagging skin?

Sagging of the facial contour is often difficult to address with skin boosters alone. Skin density and sagging are different issues, so a consultation helps clarify what may improve and what may remain.
